Across more than a decade of releases, Grill has developed a reputation for crafting emotionally restrained yet expressive electronic music, balancing structure, atmosphere, and spontaneity. Early releases such as Expressions (2013) and Mirror Image established his distinctive approach, while subsequent records—including Opal, Heat and Red Dances on his Primary Colours imprint—explore texture, space, and rhythm through influences ranging from ambient and post-punk to techno. His work has received support from artists including Ben UFO, Trevor Jackson, and Jamie xx, who played music from his early releases, and has been featured by platforms including BBC Radio 6 Music, Resident Advisor, First Floor, Electronic Sound Magazine, Boiler Room, i-D, and Dazed & Confused.
Grill has remixed artists including Jacques Greene and Jeb Loy Nichols, and his composition Velodrome has been interpreted by drummer and composer Tom Skinner (The Smile, Hello Skinny) and Shabaka Hutchings. He has DJ’d and performed live at venues and institutions including Plastic People, Village Underground, Tate Modern - The Tanks, the National Gallery, the Barbican Centre, Frieze Gallery and Dover Street Market London.
Beyond recording and performance, Grill hosts a monthly NTS Radio show (since 2013), curating forward-thinking shows. Guests have included Carl Stone, Hinako Omori, Elaine Howley, Karl D’Silva, Owen Pratt, and many others. From 2009 to 2011, he also ran Vessel Music, an independent platform for mixes and interviews with artists such as Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), Veronica Vasicka, Hans Joachim Roedelius, Mogwai, and Future Islands.
In parallel with his solo work, Grill composes music for film and moving image commissions, with clients including Calvin Klein, Aesop, Arc’teryx and Valentino.
